An eastern Iowa man is accused of ripping off a credit card to try and steal a woman’s heart. 22-year-old Nicholas Smith of Iowa City allegedly lifted the credit card on February 13 at a University of Iowa building. Police say he used the stolen card to buy a batch of Valentine’s Day gifts for his girlfriend. Investigators say he made several stops, 20-dollars for a music C-D, 100-dollars for a gift card at a clothing store, and a sweater from another store. Police say Smith also got a haircut and rang up 25-dollars worth of hair care products on the purloined card. While running around town, officers say he was driving on an invalid license and gave police a fake name when they did catch up with him. Smith’s charged with four counts of credit card forgery, driving while revoked and obstruction of justice.
