Iowa Congressman Jim Leach says there are some interesting things taking place as the debate continues over whether the U.S. should attack Iraq. Leach, a republican from Iowa City, says there’s a clear agenda for some who’ve failed to back U.S. plans. He says France is trying to isolate the U.S. to increase their own stature in the world. Leach says he finds that “not a very happy situation.” Leach says some foreign leaders are finding it hard to back the U.S. because their countrymen do not.He says close friends of the U.S. like Mexico are having trouble because the people of Mexico are against any war, while he says Turkey’s government is likely to go along despite public opposition. Leach believes Americans have moved in favor of disarming Iraq.He says there appears to have been a growing understanding in the U.S. in one direction, and a growing disparity of judgement in the rest of the world, with much of the rest of the world in doubt.
