Walk-ons start Iowa second half run for win

After scoring just 17-points in the opening half Iowa coach Steve Alford juggled his lineup to start the second half and the Hawks poured in 54 second half points to rally for a 71-64 win at Ohio State. Alford started former walk-ons Josh Kimm and Kurt Spurgeon to begin the second half after the Hawks made just six of 21-shots in the opening half. He says Kimm and Spurgeon jumpstarted the team and broke the ice for guys that were uptight.The Hawkeyes shot better than 60-percent in the second half and Alford says that kind of shooting makes everything easier. Alford says he is happy to see the Hawks rewarded for their effort. He says they’d like to be in better shape, but they’ve improved over last year’s Big Ten win total. Kimm played 11-minutes and said he and Spurgeon were thrilled to play a role. He says they don’t get a lot of opportunities and just went out to make the best of it and provide energy and spark for the rest fo the team.
