In the opening round of Class 2A last night Maquoketa 119-pounder Derek Fuglsang made his fourth appearance at state but is looking for his first trip to the medal stand. He got off to a good start in the opening round. Fuglsang scored a takedown in overtime to edge Matt Bauler of Waterloo Columbus 10-8. Fuglsang was whistled for stalling twice in the third period and the three points allowed Bauler to tie the match. Fuglsang says he would like to close out his career with a successful tournament on top of the awards stand after making it to the tourney four years.
