The state high school wrestling tournament resumed this morning with the opening round matchups in class 1A.The limited parking and the headache just to get into the building didn’t deter wrestling fans. Nearly ever seat was claimed when competition began this morning and thousands more were outside trying to buy tickets or still in their cars around Veterans Auditorium. Don Bosco’s Mack Reiter opened his bid for a fourth state title by recording a first period pin of Woodbury Central’s Ryan Rogers. So how does a three-time champ spend the rest of his day after competing in the morning? He says he goes back and plays “Playstation.”Reiter says he does not feel any pressure and is enjoying the chance to accomplish what so few have. He says this week also reminds him of how quickly his high school days have gone by as his freshman year went by fast, his sophomore year was the slowest, and his junior and senior years have gone fast.Reiter is one of two 1A competitors trying to become a four-time champ. Hudson’s C.J. Ettelson needed only 34-seconds to pin Mount Ayr’s Hans Larson at 135-pounds.Ettelson knows he is being closely watched but say it feels like the other tournaments he has taken part in.Ettelson says he needs to find ways of avoiding the pressure that goes with the chase. He says if you feel pressure, your mind is on the wrong thing, and you’re worried about what other people are thinking. At heavyweight the marquee matchup saw third-ranked Jordan Goos of Treynor edge top-ranked Andy Kavanaugh of Southern Cal 8-5. Goos got two early takedowns which helped his confidence. This afternoon at Vets, the Class 3A quarterfinals are on and later tonight it is the quarterfinals in class 1A.
