Creighton senior and Pella, Iowa native Kyle Korver was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for the second straight year today. Korver is the sixth player to win back-to-back honors and joins the lofty company of former Valley standouts, Hershey Hawkins, Larry Bird and Drakes’s Lewis Lloyd in doing so. Korver has led Creighton to a 26-4 overall record with a game against St. Louis remaining. They’re ranked 19th and he says it’s been enjoyable even though he entered the year with the attention of being the MVP. He says it’s been a lot of fun, and very challenging, but overall he says he can’t complain.He was asked to compare this year’s team with last year’s. He says it’s hard to compare the team since the season isn’t over, but he says personally this year has been a lot tougher in a lot of ways.Korver ranks second in the Valley in scoring this year, averaging nearly 18 points a game, and ranked eighth in rebounding. He says he’s worked hard to be know as more than just a scorer.Korver heads up the Valley all-conference first team. Drake’s Greg Danielson was named to the second team. Matt Schneiderman and David Gruber of Northern Iowa, and Luke McDonald of Drake were named honorable mention. Schneiderman was also named to the all-newcomer team. UNI’s Ben Jacobsen was named to the all-freshman team.
