The state’s Low-Income Heating Assistance program has helped thousands of Iowans so far. Administrator Jerry McKim says the numbers are just about on track with last year. There’s a bit more money than last year, so far, and the benefit is still the same, an average of 225-dollars for the one-time payment clients receive. There is still time to apply even though the winter heating season is nearing its official end. At April 15th, the end of the program, once they review the numbers and find any excess funds they’ll make a supplemental payment. But McKim says if it happens that payments is likely to be very small, perhaps thirty dollars. They take applications through April 15 so you can still sign up if you’re eligible, and the 70-thousand is just a few more than last year.
