This week, Governor Vilsack and a bi-partisan group of state legislators wrote to federal leaders appealing for help in paying for programs the federal government says the states have to fund. Iowa Congressman Leonard Boswell says one area that was singled out where the state needs help with so-called unfunded mandates is the No Child Left Behind Act.Boswell says he’s co-sponsored legislation that would see the federal government fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and other efforts to bolster Homeland Security. Boswell says the safety of our families shouldn’t be placed at risk because the federal government put more requirements on the state without the funding to meet them, adding, “If we continue to pass the buck down the line, it’s our children who’ll be shortchanged.”
