A member of Ireland’s parliament is in Emmetsburg to participate in the town’s St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Dennis O’Donovan is expressing thanks to the people of the United States for supporting the peace process for Ireland’s neighbor, Northern Ireland.O’Donovan says it’s historically one of the greatest events to happen during his lifetime. O’Donovan says American companies have invested several billion dollars in Ireland’s economy, which has emerged as one of the bright spots in the European economy. Tourism, though, is the country’s second-leading industry.Emmetsburg welcomes a member of Ireland’s Parliament every year to serve as the grand marshall of the city’s St. Patrick’s parade. Although the 17th falls on Monday this year, Emmettsburg’s parade will be Saturday. There’s a Caeli (kay’-lee) on Friday night — a talent show for those who perform traditional Celtic music.
