Governor Tom Vilsack says he won’t accept a hike in the speed limit on Iowa’s Interstates unless someone can prove auto insurance rates won’t go up, too. House Speaker Christopher Rants, a republican from Sioux City, is disappointed by the Governor’s comments, but says the governor did say what it would take. The speed limit bill passed out of the House Transportation Committee this past week, and Rants says he appreciates that the Governor has laid down a test. Rants says freshman Representative Royd Chambers, the bill’s floor manager, is going to have to find an answer to Vilsack’s challenge.Rants says the speed limit bill has faced a “bumpy road” every year it’s come up for debate. Rants says there are 40 new members in the House, and right now he only know how one of ’em — Representative Chambers — will vote.
