The girls state basketball tournament closed out Saturday night with Underwood rolling to the class 2A crown and wondering what if there was a one class tournament. The Eagles jumped out to a 16-4 lead at the end of one in a 58-36 win over Maquoketa Valley and with a regular season victory over the 4A champ coach Eric Hjelle was asked if his team might be the best regardless of class. He says they haven’t played the other teams, but he says they wouldn’t back down if they did. With nearly the entire team coming back the expectations will be only bigger. He says they lose only one senior and he says they have good sophomores and freshmen coming up.
