A new University of Iowa group is hosting its first film festival of short documentaries today. Theresa Seeberger, a board member of the Iowa City International Documentary Festival Organization, says there will be 35 movies shown as part of the fest, starting this morning and running well into the evening. She says the subject matter is wide ranging, from terrorism and panic attacks to a story about two towns competing for the title of having the world’s largest ball of twine. Seeberger says all of the films run 30 minutes or less and she says there were many submissions from around the globe.Several of the movies came from filmmakers in Iowa and on Iowa-related topics, while others were submitted from Germany, England, India, Mexico and elsewhere. Seeberger was asked if it was hard to narrow down the number of films from 87 to just the 35 that’ll be shown.Admission is free to anyone. The documentaries are showing at the Bijou Theater in the Iowa Memorial Union starting at 10 AM until 12:30 P.M., again from 1:30 P.M. until 5 P.M. and finally from 7 P.M. until 10:30 P.M.
