Iowans are encouraged to shoot buffalo this spring at the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge in Prairie City. Shoot them with cameras, that is. Refuge spokesman Don Jorgensen says entries are being taken now for the Buffalo Day Photo Contest. He says visitors have been snapping lots of great shots. The park is home to about three-dozen of the large, lumbering creatures which once roamed Iowa by the thousands. Jorgensen says the buffalo make super models.Jorgensen says there are three divisions for the contest: kids 12 and under, teens 13-19 and adults — anyone over 20. He says all entries need to be four-by-six inch prints, no slides.The winner gets a $50 gift certificate to the Refuge Bookstore. Entries will be taken through June 20th and Buffalo Day at the park is June 21st. For more details, surf to www.tallgrass.org.
