Stacey Dragila has not only been the world’s best female pole vaulter but she has blazed a trail in the process. Dragila won the Olympic debut of the women’s pole vault during the 200 Sydney games and will bring with her a growing interest in the sport to this month’s Drake Relays. She says she’s done a lot of camps for kids and has been surprised by the number of women who’re interested in the pole vault. Dragila says the event combines athletic ability with a sense of danger. She says a lot of people see how much fun it is, and want to try it. The pole vault has become a popular event at the relays and Dragila says part of that is because the event can last for a couple of hours. The Drake Relays are April 25th and 26th.
