Iowa labor leaders are highlighting a study which concludes that if the President’s tax cut package is implemented, Iowa will lose 195-million dollars in federal money over the next decade because spending will be cut. Iowa Federation of Lsbor president Mark Smith says it doesn’t make sense to cut spending on roads, schools and other priority areas in order to — in his opinion — give tax cuts to the wealthy.Smith says Bush’s tax plan is “insane” in an era when there are 10-million unemployed Americans who could be put to work on public works projects like building roads and schools.Smith is calling on Iowa’s Congressional delegation to “straighten this thing up.” Smith says Iowa has two key players in D-C in House Budget Committee Chairman Jim Nussle and Senate Finance Committee chairman Chuck Grassley. Smith says Bush has a poor track record when it comes to the economy. Smith says for every hour Bush’s been President, the country’s lost 109 jobs. Smith says Bush’s response has been to focus on tax cuts for the wealthy, and that won’t help spur economic growth.
