Governor Tom Vilsack has approved a bill that requires background checks of child care workers. Vilsack says people who’ve been convicted of certain felonies or sexual abuse, and those who’re on the state’s sex abuse registry will never be allowed to become licensed child care providers. Vilsack calls it “zero tolerance.” Vilsack says as a result of the bill, people who have made mistakes and violated the law will not have an opportunity to care for children in a child care setting. Vilsack signed the bill into law early this afternoon as a class of elementary school children watched.
