Larry Eustachy has until the end of business today to appeal last week’s decision to fire him as basketball coach at Iowa State. Eustachy was the Cyclones’ coach the past five seasons and said last week he would fight to keep his job. I-S-U athletic director Bruce Vande Velde announced his decision last Wednesday after it was reported the coach partied and drank with college students at Missouri and Kansas State following games this past season. Bill Seals is editor of Cyclone Nation magazine and Cyclone Nation-dot-com. He says while Eustachy’s right to appeal has delayed an official search for a new coach, behind the scenes could be a different story. He says they’re likely already into the search, but can’t say a lot about it until the firing of Eustachy is official.Seals says the program should have no difficulty attracting an outstanding coach. He says it’s a school that won two conference championships just a few years ago. He says, depending on which players stay and which go, it could be a decent team next year.
