A Des Moines police officer is recovering at a capitol city hospital after being dragged by a car on Tuesday night. Officers pulled over a car driven by a man who was driving on a suspended license and took him into custody. Police say another man who was a passenger in the car slid behind the wheel, as he was wanted on several warrants. Senior officer Stewart Barnes reached inside to try and get the keys or shift the car out of drive and was dragged about a block. The fleeing car ran a stop sign and collided with a minivan, injuring a 51-year-old woman. Reports say Officer Barnes is listed in “good” condition. The man who was at the wheel of the car, 20-year-old Demarko Walker of Des Moines, was apprehended and faces a variety of charges.
