For one day next month the Buena Vista County town of Marathon will double in size when the annual Marathon to Marathon is run on June 21st. The event began in 1996 and Marketing Director Donna Johnston says it is a big event, not only for Marathon, but for the city of Storm Lake where the 26-point-two mile course begins. Storm Lake is where all the hotels are, as there are now hotels in Marathon, a community of 320 people.Johnston says the race has become the biggest event for the town for a one day event. Johnston says the event continues to grow and plans on adding more elements. She says they hope to get more endorsements from some companies, and eventually be able to add a money prize to the race. Registrations are being accepted and Johnston says runners from across the country are expected to take part. Besides the Marathon the event also includes a marathon relay and a five-K.
