Another couple units of Iowa reservists return home today from active duty. Lieutenant Trenton Twedt with the Iowa Air national Guard says the members of the 132nd Security Forces Squadron have been on active duty since November in Kurdistan, at Gancy Air Base. They were part of the force protecting the coalition aircraft of the U-S Air Force and Marine Corps, Norwegian Air Force, Royal Netherlands and Royal Danish Air Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom over Afghanistan. They’ve been guarding the planes and people there, making sure terrorists didn’t infiltrate the base and destroy the aircraft on the ground. He calls them definitely the “unsung heroes,” with some of the worst duty and conditions in the military but doing one of the most important jobs. One group of the 132nd Security Forces arrived around midnight, another that was postponed from Thursday evening should arrive about mid-morning today. Thursday afternoon two detachments from the U-S Army Reserve’s 960th Quartermaster Company returned to Cedar Rapids and Sioux City.
