Seventy Iowa nursing homes are participating in a new federal program that offers new ideas for treating chronic pain and infections and improving the activity of residents. Kim Downs of the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care says workers in the nursing homes will get technical assistance and training to improve the quality of care for residents.Every nursing home in Iowa was invited to be part of the program, and 42 percent of the state’s nursing homes applied. Downs says they had to limit participation to 70 homes. Downs says the 70 homes will get on-site visits and personal, one-on-one assistance. The rest of the state’s nursing homes can get the information, though, via a monthly newsletter or at a special website established for the project. The program’s financed by a grant from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The following 70 homes are participating in the project (list supplied by Iowa Foundation for Medical Care and down not include cities unless the city is included in the home’s name): Adair Community Health Center, Akron City Convalescent Care Center, Algona Good Samaritan, Belmond Health Care Center, Bethany Lutheran Home, Bishop Drumm Care Center, Cedar Falls Lutheran Home, CLC Carroll, Country View Manor, Crestview Manor, Davenport Good Samaritan Center, Donnellson Health Center, Elkader Care Center, Elm Crest Retirement Community, Ennoble Manor Care Center, Forest City Good Samaritan Center, Fountain West Health Center, Friendship Haven, Garden View Care Center, Good Neighbor Home, Good Shepherd Health Center, Gowrie Care Center, Grandview Healthcare Center, Great River Medical Center – Klein Center, Happy Siesta Nursing Home, Harmony House Health Care Center, Hegg Memorial Health Center, Henry County Health Center – Park Place, Hubbard Care Center, Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center, Keystone Nursing Care Center, Maple Heights Nursing Home, Marian Home, Mercy Medical Center – Bluff Terrace, Methodist Manor Retirement Community, Meth-Wick Community, Mill Valley Care Center, Monroe Care Center, Morningside Care Center, Northwest Iowa Health Center, Oakland Manor Nursing Home, Oelwein Health Care Center, Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center, Park View Care Center, Peoples Memorial Hospital Of Buchanan, River Hills Village In Keokuk, Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rose Haven Nursing Home, Rose Vista Home, Shady Rest Care Center, Solon Nursing Care Center, St Luke Lutheran Home, Stonehill Care Center, Sunrise Retirement Community, The Alverno Health Care Center, The New Homestead, The Ottumwa Manor, The Presbyterian Village Of Ackley, Thomas Rest Haven, Valley View Village, Valley Vue Care Center, Villisca Good Samaritan Center, Virginia Gay Annex, Washington Cty Hosp (ML McCreedy Home), West Union Good Samaritan Center, Westbrook Acres, Westridge Quality Care & Rehab, Westview Care Center, Wyndcrest Nursing Home
