Voters in northeast Iowa’s Clayton County will go to the polls July 22nd to fill a vacancy on the county board of supervisors. The need for the special election came yesterday, thanks to actions of a supervisor vacancy committee, after the current supervisors chairman Denny Schroeder made a plea bargain earlier this month after being charged with his second drunk driving offense. Schroeder started serving a 30-day jail sentence two weeks ago. According to the Iowa Code, a vacancy is automatic if an incumbent office holder is convicted of an aggravated misdemeanor.
