The Cargill plant in Eddyville unveiled plans to expand its biotech facility this morning. The plant is expanding to be able to manufacture the dietary suplement glucosamine, the first American produce version of the product made from corn and not shellfish. Vilsack says the future of biotechnology lies in the Eddyville plant, and he says the Bioassociation says Iowa is the second leading state in the country in the development of biomass products like corn and soybeans. The new production facility costs more than 10-million dollars and will raise the plant’s workforce to 460 –an addition of 10 jobs.
