Family and friends in southwest Iowa are saying goodbye today to a Hamburg native who was killed in Iraq. The funeral is at two o’clock at Hamburg Elementary School for Kenneth Nalley, a 19-year-old Army private. He was one of two U-S soldiers killed May 26th when their humvee collided with another vehicle. Nalley’s brother, Dan Osborn, says the community has rallied around the family in this sad time. “Cards, people sending money, bringing food,” he says. “Seems like everyday somebody comes over and say ‘What can we do for ya?'” Nalley had only been in Iraq about three weeks before the fatal accident. Osborn says he talked to Nalley twice during his time in Iraq, the last time just six days before his brother’s death. Osborn says Nalley expressed concern over the dangers he was facing. “He’s be going down the road, or stopping at a check point, and (had) ‘snipes’ shooting at him. He says it bothered him a little bit but he got used to it,” Osborn says. Osborn hopes his brother will be remembered as a hero — as his death is a reminder of the dangers involved in serving in the Persian Gulf. Nalley was the third Iowan to die in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
