Iowa’s Attorney General says consumers can get a refund if they bought worthless farm chemicals from a company that’s agreed to a settlement. The A-G’s farm division charged that Central State Supply of New York sold herbicides for spot weed control, but in containers labeled as brand-name “Turf King” or “Triple Threat” weedkiller they put only diluted two-four-D, a chemical that was used more than 35 years ago. Prosecutors say the product certainly didn’t live up to claims that it would kill weeds for several years. Anyone who bought the company’s product since 1997 may qualify for part of the 50-thousand-dollar settlement, and attorney general Tom Miller says the refunds are likely to average about 250-dollars. Miller also says phony pesticides are a perennial problem and consumers should watch out for unsolicited pitches, extraordinary claims and pressure to buy right away.
