A newly renovated Clear Lake State Park is opening this weekend after a wet spring pushed back the scheduled opening from Memorial Day weekend. Michael Schoneboom, district park supervisor with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, says the popular park is ready for recreation and campers. They rewired many of the electrical outlets to 50-amp breakers to handle growing power needs from campers. They also have reduced the number of campsites to 176 and expanded many of them, adding gravel and other upgrades. Schoneboom says these improvements have been needed for some time. Schoneboom says one of the main reasons these improvements were needed is the shear number of campers that visit the Clear Lake State Park every summer. The Clear Lake park is in the top five most used in the state. The park officially reopened at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
