It has been nearly a year since the Mason City Newman baseball team has suffered a loss. The Knights are 17-0 on the season and top ranked in Class 2A and their overall winning streak has reached 34 after they won the final 17-games of last season enroute to the 1A state title. Newman coach Tony Adams says while surprised his team is unbeaten to this point he felt he had a solid team entering the season. He says he thought they would be good, and now the kids believe that and are playing well. A move up a class from the previous year might seem like a big challenge to many programs Adams says their history of playing larger schools makes it an easier transition. Like all coaches though, Adams says there are plenty of ways the Knights can get better. He says their pitching has been good, but they have games when they don’t hit well. He says they need to play well offensively and defensively at the same time.Newman puts that unbeaten record on the line this evening with a game against Forest City.
