Student pilot avoids crash after plane problems

A student pilot from Iowa Central Community College landed safely after some engine trouble this morning. A Piper Warrior operated by Lucas Wueste of Summit, South Dakota, left Storm Flying Service at the Webster City Municipal Airport this morning when Wueste noticed that the small plane began to develop some problems. Wueste landed the plane on a gravel road north of the town of Kamrar in Hamilton County. There, the plane remained on the ground for over 90 minutes as Webster City airport mechanics were summoned to the scene to repair the plane. The Iowa State Patrol and Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies were on the scene to assist and at one time trying to search for the aircraft. It wasn’t until 10-30 that the plane was fixed and then flew back to the Webster City airport for some additional maintenance. Probable cause at this point is a buildup of carbon in the spark plugs that caused the engine to run rough.
