Worth County voters have joined Palo Alto County in giving the go ahead for the county to pursue a riverboat casino. Seventy-five percent of voters who went to the polls yesterday approved the county making an application for a riverboat casino license. The vote was two-thousand-60 for with only 687 against. Voter turnout was excellent with half of the county’s vters heading to the polls yesterday. The next step is for the Worth County Development Authority, the non-profit organization that will officially apply for the license, to make their application to the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. The Commission for now has placed a moratorium on issuing more riverboat casino licenses, but some state lawmakers have been pushing for that moratorium to be lifted as a way to help the state’s sagging economy.
