The Burlington High School baseball team has the inside track to the Mississippi Athletic Conference title. The Grayhounds are ranked second in the latest Radio Iowa/Coaches Association poll in class 4A and stand 25-5 overall and 12-2 in the league race after sweeping a Monday night doubleheader from Pleasant Valley. Burlington coach Dan Reid says his team is getting confident and feels it would make the season to make it to state and win a few games. Reid says he believes they need to win the conference first. His team faces a showdown with class 3A third-ranked and second place Davenport Assumption next Monday. A quirk in the schedule leaves Burlington idle until next Monday. The conference saves back dates to make up games that have been rained out. The problem is, there have not been any. He says they’ve talked about have an intersquad games. Pitching is always a big part of any team’s success, and Reid says his team is no different. His says their conference team is ERA is 1.84, and overall it’s 1.93.
