Many say there’s no better way to celebrate the nation’s independence than to honor the freedom-giving automobile. In one of the largest car shows in the Midwest, the 12th annual Goodguys Heartland Nationals are underway today (Friday) through Sunday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Betsy Livingston is spokeswoman for the Goodguys.About three-thousand cars are expected to line the fair’s Grand Concourse, all built in 1964 or earlier, in addition to a car parts swap meet, arts & crafts, and nostalgia entertainment. Livingston says this is truly a nationwide show with a draw from L.A. to New York.Livingston says a variety of types of vehicles are being featured, including hot rods, classics, street rods and muscle cars. She says there are basically two types of collectors — those who keep the cars looking like they’ve just driven off a showroom and those who modernize. For more information, surf to “www.good-guys.com” or call the fairgrounds at (515) 262-3111.
