Grinnell police say two men wanted in connection with a bank robbery this week are now in custody. Grinnell police Sergeant Randy Hansen says a man who ran from the bank later was identified as 28-year-old Jason Oppe and tracked down at his home in Geneseo Illinois.Oppe’s charged with first-degree robbery and willful injury by motor vehicle. The fleeing car hit one person though police say the bystander wasn’t badly hurt. Hansen says witnesses helped police with clues, like a description of a second man waiting in the getaway car, and the vehicle’s license-plate number.That plate number was a big factor and they worked with investigators in other towns and the other states to accomplish his arrest. Grinnell officers went to Illinois and helped local police make the arrest and also applied for a warrant for the second man. The vehicle involved in the bank robbery was later found in Moline, Illinois. An hour before the Grinnell holdup, a credit union was robbed in Newton and investigators say the same men may be involved in that case. The extradition process will begin with cooperation by the county attorney’s office and the FBI. Oppe was arrested at his Geneseo home Thursday afternoon, and late this (Friday) morning police reported the second suspect, identified in the warrant as 24-year-old Cameron Hogue of Peoria, Illinois, was arrested.
