Two suspects in custody for last week’s bank robbery in Grinnell may be linked to other hold-ups according to Grinnell Police Chief Jody Matherly.Matherly says they’ve been in contact with several other state and federal agencies to determine whether it’s a “multi-state situation.” A credit union in Newton was held up about an hour before the bank in Grinnell was robbed. No decision’s been made yet as to how the pair of suspects will be prosecuted. Matherly says one option is to pursue state charges. Another is to charge them in federal court.Matherly says either way, the two men are facing serious charges. Twenty-eight-year-old Jason Oppe was arrested Thursday at his home in Geneseo, Illinois and charged with first-degree robbery and willful injury by a motor vehicle, as a bystander was hurt as the get-away car sped from the robbery scene. Twenty-four-year-old Cameron Hogue of Peoria, Illinois, was arrested on Friday and faces the same charges.
