Voters in northeast Iowa’s Clayton County went to the polls Tuesday to fill a vacancy on the county board of supervisors. A special panel determined in May the election was necessary, after then-supervisor’s chairman Denny Schroeder made a plea bargain after being charged with a second drunk driving offense. According to the Iowa code, a vacancy is automatically created when an incumbent office holder is convicted of an aggravated misdemeanor. Of the five candidates, Democrat Larry Gibbs of Garnavillo, won the seat.
