Iowa motorists may get annoyed seeing other drivers yakking on cellular phones, but there are worse distractions on the road, according to Dawn Duffy, spokeswoman for Triple-A Iowa says cell phones are a small percentage of things that distract drivers. She says a Triple-A study finds bigger distractions include: drivers reaching for something in the vehicle, adjusting the radio, eating, drinking, conversing with a passenger, grooming and even reading while driving. Duffy says fiddling with the radio is the top distraction.Duffy says people who think they’ve solved the cell phone problem with a hands-free device haven’t really done so.Duffy says “When you’re talking on the phone, sometimes a conversation could beemotional or just very distracting, it’s where your mind is as well.” She says the study found there are two basic types of distraction for drivers.Driver distractions are said to be a factor in 25-to-50-percent of all car crashes.
