A man shot by police is facing murder charges in Muscatine County. The Muscatine County sheriff’s office had a deputy on patrol when the 911 call came in from the small community of Stockton. A police officer from Durant came along to the rural house where they say someone fired at them and the officers returned fire. An urgent call went out for reinforcements and as other officers arrived they found there were children at the home and moved five kids from the home to a safe location. It ended when an officer shot and wounded 42-year-old David Hering and they took him into custody and off to a Davenport hospital. A sixth child was found unharmed and the kids were taken to be cared for by family members. A woman’s body was found there too, and authorities identified her as the suspect’s wife, 41-year-old Lisa Hering. When David Hering is released from the hospital, he’ll be taken before a judge in Muscatine and other charges may be added to murder.
