A new face will direct the Iowa State offense when the Cyclones open August 30th against U-N-I. Junior college transfer Waye Terry and redshirt freshman Austin Flynn are competing for the chance to replace Seneca Wallace. Terry tries not to view it as replacing Wallace, he says he doesn’t even think about so he doesn’t get caught up in the hype. Terry says a quarterback needs to be a leader and that role developes with time. Flynn says being so early in his career he does not feel pressure in the competition. He says he sees it as a great opportunity, and it’s every freshman’s dream to come in and play for four years. Flynn says every aspect of being a quarterback plays a role in who will eventually win the job. Flynn is one of several freshmen who could see plenty of action this season, including running back Stevie Hicks. He says he and Stevie live right next to each other and they really don’t talk about it, they just go out day-to-day and battle for their jobs. Three players had been vying for the job but last years backup Chris love is suspended for the season opener.
