The family of one of the Iowa soldiers who died in Iraq has issued a statement on their son’s death. Wayne and Ileane Duetsch of Dubuque had originally planned to speak publicly about the death of their son Michael. They’ve changed those plans and have issued a statement through the Iowa National Guard. Private Michael Duetsch (Doich) died July 31st when his armored personnel carrier was struck by an explosive round. His parents says they’ve been overwhelmed by the response to Michael’s death and say the prayers and cards have touched them deeply. Their statement says they’re appreciative of the help given by military personnel during this tough time and says they understand why Michael was proud to be in the army and to serve among such honorable men and women. The Duetsch’s also say the grieve for the family of David Kirchhoff, another Iowan who died recently of heat stroke suffered in Iraq. The family says they continue to pray for all the young men and women “who like Michael serve their country with an unwavering commitment and such courage.”
