Iowa landowners who want to learn how to best manage stands of trees may consider taking part in any of seven forestry field days over the next few months — the first is tomorrow (Thursday) in north-central Iowa’s Floyd County. I-S-U Extension forester Paul Wray says field days are for people who own woodlands who want help in terms of management of the resource and to make it better for themselves and for the rest of the citizens. Thursday’s first field day is at the Lee Zimmer Tree Farm in Floyd County. Wray says topics will include layout and design, what he says is a hot topic in terms of water quality issues and buffer strips, weed control, and gopher and deer infestations. Most of the field days are free and other topics will include Christmas tree production, marketing, band saw milling, and lumber quality.Other forestry field days are scheduled for: Warren County on September 19th, Monroe County on October 4th, Lee County on October 7th, Allamakee County on October 9th, Union County on October 14th and in Johnson County on October 17th.
