Five Iowa institutions made this year’s rankings by a national news magazine. U.S. News and World Report puts out an annual academic guide that ranks universities on factors like: student retention, tuition and graduation rates. Of the many lists, the University of Northern Iowa ranked the highest, coming in second under Master’s category Midwestern schools. Drake University in Des Moines ranked fifth on the same list. Grinnell College tied with Smith at 15th place on the list of best liberal arts colleges. And on the list of the nation’s best doctoral institutions, the University of Iowa ranked number-19 while Iowa State University came in 41st. On that list, Harvard and Princeton were tied at the top.
