Cornell College has received over two-million while a Mason City college and hospital have received three-million more from the estate of a Mason City woman. Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and North Iowa Area Community College have received one-and-a-half million each in an estate gift from Betty Greer Dillon, who died at the age of 77 in July 2001, leaving the gifts in the form of thousands of shares of Lee Enterprises stock with a total value worth three-million. Dillon’s father was a long-time advertising manager of the Lee-owned Mason City Globe-Gazette. NIACC will use the money to establish up to 75 new scholarships each year for area students, while Mercy will place the money into an endowment through the Mercy Foundation. Dillon graduated from Mason City High School, the former Mason City Junior College and Cornell College. She worked as a teller at the First National Bank from 1943 to 1959.
