Iowa State coach Dan McCarney says the Cyclones will be without Senior defensive end Tyson Smith for the remainder of the season. Smith suffered a broken leg in Iowa State’s 17-10 win over Northern Iowa on Saturday night. Smith broke a bone in his right leg and had surgery. McCarney calls it a “major blow” and says they’ll miss him. Because the injury happened so early in the season Smith will be able to return next season, as he hasn’t had a redshirt season yet.McCarney expects Hiawatha Rutland to see action in this week’s game against Ohio. Rutland was the Cyclones top running back after spring drills but was suspended for the opening game after a brush with the law this summer. Michael Wagner is number-one on the depth chart, Hiawatha Rutland, and Saturday’s starter, Stevie Hicks, will battle for the second spot.
