The second annual “Heroes’ Sunday” ceremony is planned for tomorrow at a church in Estherville. Event coordinator Hannah Britton says the weekend following the nine-eleven anniversary is an appropriate time to recognize “everyday champions” from across northwest Iowa and southwest Minnesota. Britton says this event honors current and former firefighters, law officers, military members, E-M-Ts and other emergency personnel. She says all of those who attend will get a gift. Britton says some services remembering nine-eleven turn into sobfests, but not this one.Britton, who is an office staff worker at the Estherville Police Department, says “This will be more of a patriotic service, more of a positive service, that will honor those who often get misunderstood, overlooked and don’t get recognized very often.” She’s expecting 250 people to attend, some from as far away as Council Bluffs. She says the ceremony won’t be anything spectacular but it will be uplifting. It starts at 10:30 AM Sunday at Calvary Baptist Church in Estherville.
