Residents in a northern Iowa community may soon be able to write out virtually all of their monthly checks to one place. Algona municipal utilities has begun the process of installation after getting into the phone business last July. General manager John Billstien says 100 installations have been completed in the last 3 weeks of the over 500 customers who have signed up. He says 400 customers have chosen an AMU long distance plan, which is a locally based utility company that is 105 years old also offering cable TV and internet service along with electricity and telephone service. Local service to residents is offered for as little as $10.50 per line per month.
