Birds in a basement caused some concern in Sioux City yesterday. Public safety officials were called to a small home after a report of a foul odor coming from the home. Officials found 400 chickens in the basement of the home. The fire department’s HAZMAT team was called in because of the potential health threat. Members of the Sioux City animal control unit and the Siouxland Animal Rescue League moved out the chickens and they’ll be adopted out to new homes. The man says he was raising the chickens as food for friends.
