Two Iowa educators were each awarded 25-thousand dollars Wednesday through the annual Milken Family Foundation National Educator Awards — Russel Adams, principal of M-O-C-Floyd Valley High School in Orange City, and Sara Coleman, a science teacher at Norwalk High. Adams says he was told he was needed at a staff meeting, and became uncomfortable after seeing his family and others were there.Adams is a Pocahontas native and has been principal in Orange City just one year. Prior to that, he was principal of Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn High and Springville High. He also taught at Southern Cal High in Lake City. Adams credits his students and his staff with making him look like a winner. Adams says he’s already making plans for the prize money. Adams and his wife, who’s also a teacher, have three kids. He says the 25-grand will go toward putting all three through college.
