Federal officials arrested a 21-year-old Clinton Man on Monday, as part of a new crackdown. Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf says it’s the nationwide “Safe Neighborhoods” program to remove guns from people barred by law from possessing them.The U.S, Attorney’s offices, including those in Iowa, are taking the initiative to remove as many handguns as possible from felons, and any case now in which someone’s found to be a felon and possess a gun is being referred to federal authorities, where they’ll face stiffer penalties under federal law. There’s automatic five-year sentence for being a felon and having a gun in your possession. If you’re convicted as a felon in possession of a firearm, the county attorney says you’ll spend 85-percent of your sentence in a federal prison. 21-year-old Corey Bruggenworth of Clinton was arrested Monday and charged in a U.S. warrant with possession of a firearm as a felon.
