Several numbers will be at play when Drake and Waldorf close out their seasons this weekend in Drake Stadium. It will be the one-thousandth football game in Drake history. A victory would be the Bulldogs sixth and allow them to avoid a losing season and it will wrap-up Waldorf’s first season at the N-A-I-A level after competing as a junior college. A win would also be the 100th in his Drake career for coach Rob Ash. Ash says the most significant thing for him is this is the last game for his 9, maybe 10 seniors and he says it’s always sad when they play their last game. Ash says one of the unique aspects of football is the feeling that comes with your last game. He says it is absolutely final as you’ll never put on a helmet again and never play again after first putting on a helmet in grade school. Waldorf is 0-10 but Ash says with so many heartbreaking losses this season the Bulldogs will have no trouble getting ready.Ash says with such a young team a victory would be a boost looking ahead to next season. He says there are only 10 seniors in next years class, so two wins to end the season would be a big boost for the young guys.
