Iowa Congressman Jim Leach says the Iowa Environmental Project proposed for Coralville will not be included in the energy bill. Leach, a republican from Iowa City, says the project which includes building an indoor rainforest in Coralville, could see funding in an appropriations bill. Leach says there are a lot of good things in the energy bill. He says it’s the best bill ever developed for ethanol and for alternative fuels. He says it will spur wind farming in the north and west parts of the state. Leach says the bill also includes a natural gas pipeline from Alaska and Canada. He says that will have more than a little to do with keeping gas prices down in the midwest. Leach says the Iowa Environmental Project didn’t make the energy bill because it’s a nonprofit plan. The project was criticized as “pork” that was holding up the energy bill. Leach says that’s not so as there were four real estate projects that got into the bill that he says shouldn’t be funded in any bill. He says it is in some ways the most idealistic project in modern times that’s been presented to Congress. He was time will tell whether the project is realistic. Leach says the project could be a national center for environmental research and education.
