Your wallet won’t be quite as stuffed after buying the ingredients for this year’s Thanksgiving meal. The price of purchasing the turkey and all of the fixin’s for ten people has risen slightly, according to Barb Lykins, spokeswoman for the American Farm Bureau. This year’s survey finds the price of the meal is 36-dollars-28-cents, a rise of a dollar-72 from last year. Lykins says the prices of several key items have fluctuated since the 2002 survey. The cost of a pumpkin pie mix rose, as did sweet potatoes, frozen green peas and fresh cranberries, while prices fell for the 14-ounce package of cubed stuffing and the brown-and-serve rolls. As for the star attraction, Lykins says the price of the big bird was virtually unchanged she says it’s roughly 97-cents a pound and a great value for American consumers.The Farm Bureau’s first Thanksgiving dinner survey was done in 1986 and the cost was 28-dollars-74-cents — that’s about seven-and-a-half dollars cheaper than today’s meal. Lykins says that’s a rise of about one-point-six percent which she says isn’t bad when you consider the cost of living rises about four-percent each year.
